How We Train

Training should have a reason behind it.

We don't add more weight simply because you lifted the weight last time. We don't make an exercise more complicated because you've been doing it for a while.

We don't make workouts harder just so they feel harder.

We start by finding out where you are.

Your goals give us a direction. What we learn along the way helps determine what comes next.

Training changes when there is a reason for it to change.

Start With an Assessment

Your initial assessment gives us a starting point.

We look at how you move, your strength, balance and physical capacity along with what you want to accomplish.

What we find helps shape your training.

If there are movement patterns that need attention, we work on them as part of the program. They aren't something we set aside while we move on to the "real workout." Building those patterns is part of training.

At the same time, we begin developing the strength and capacity you need to move toward your goals.

Build the Foundation

Early training gives us an opportunity to build the whole body while learning how you respond.

For someone looking to build muscle, we may use full-body training with paired muscle groups. While one muscle group works, another has time to recover. That allows us to train the whole body throughout the week while putting more work toward the areas you want to develop.

Someone looking for a broader upper body may spend more time developing the shoulders, back and chest. Someone looking for more lower-body development may put more work toward the glutes and legs.

The rest of the body doesn't get ignored.

We're changing where we put the emphasis, not reducing you to a collection of body parts.

The same principle applies to other goals.

Your starting point, what you want to accomplish and how you respond to training help determine what gets more attention.

Measure What Changes

We don't assume something is working because the workout got harder.

We go back and look.

At reassessment, we repeat the same checks from your initial assessment and compare where you are now with where you started. Depending on what you're working toward, we may also look at measurements, photos and changes in performance.

That gives us something more useful than guessing.

We can see where you're progressing, where something may be lagging and what we may need to shore up to keep that progress going safely.

Sometimes the next step is more weight. Sometimes it isn't.

It may be improving control, increasing range of motion, building balance, changing the amount of work we're doing or spending more time on an area that isn't progressing with everything else.

Training Should Change With You

The program you begin with isn't meant to be the program you follow forever.

As your strength changes, your movement changes and your body adapts, your training should change too.

Full-body training may eventually give way to more specialized work. Someone looking to build muscle may reach a point where particular areas need more attention. Another athlete may need to spend more time developing strength, balance, movement or capacity.

We don't make those changes because a calendar says it's time for something new.

We make them because your training gives us a reason to.

Your assessment gives us a starting point. Training gives us an opportunity to build from it.

Reassessment shows us what changed. Then we decide what comes next.

Where Do You Want to Go From Here?

The way we train stays grounded in the same approach. Where we start depends on what brings you here.
